Personal Data Management

In France, personal data are protected, in particular, by Law No. 78-17 of January 6, 1978, Law No. 2004-801 of August 6, 2004, Article L.226-13 of the Penal Code, and the European Directive of October 24, 1995. When using the site, the following may be collected: the URLs of the links through which the user accessed the site, the user’s internet service provider, and the user’s IP address. In any event, the publisher only collects personal information about the user for the purposes of certain services offered by the site. The user provides these details knowingly, particularly when entering them voluntarily. The user is informed whether providing this information is mandatory or optional.

In accordance with the provisions of Articles 38 et seq. of Law 78-17 of January 6, 1978, relating to information technology, files and freedoms, any user has the right to access, rectify and object to personal data concerning them by sending a written and signed request, accompanied by a copy of an identity document bearing the holder’s signature, specifying the address to which the response must be sent. No personal information concerning the user of the site is published without the user’s knowledge, exchanged, transferred, assigned or sold on any medium to third parties. The only exception allowing transmission of such information to a third party would be in the event of a sale of the publisher, in which case the purchaser would be bound by the same data retention and amendment obligations toward the user. The site is currently in the process of registration with the CNIL.

In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), this privacy policy complies with the following principles:
Personal data must be:

  1. processed lawfully, fairly and transparently with regard to the data subject (lawfulness, fairness, transparency);
  2. collected for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes and not further processed in a manner incompatible with those purposes; further processing for archiving in the public interest, scientific or historical research or statistical purposes shall not be considered incompatible with the initial purposes in accordance with Article 89(1) (purpose limitation);
  3. adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which they are processed (data minimization);
  4. accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date; reasonable steps must be taken to ensure that personal data that are inaccurate, with regard to the purposes for which they are processed, are erased or rectified without delay (accuracy);
  5. kept in a form which permits identification of data subjects for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which the personal data are processed; personal data may be stored for longer periods insofar as they are processed solely for archiving in the public interest, scientific or historical research or statistical purposes in accordance with Article 89(1), subject to implementation of the appropriate technical and organizational measures required by the GDPR to safeguard the rights and freedoms of data subjects (storage limitation);
  6. processed in a manner that ensures appropriate security of the personal data, including protection against unauthorized or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage, using appropriate technical or organizational measures (integrity and confidentiality).

Processing shall be lawful only if and to the extent that at least one of the following applies:

  1. the data subject has given consent to the processing of their personal data for one or more specific purposes;
  2. processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party or in order to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract;
  3. processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject;
  4. processing is necessary in order to protect the vital interests of the data subject or of another natural person;
  5. processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller;
  6. processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the controller or by a third party, except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject which require protection of personal data, particularly when the data subject is a child.

For California residents, this privacy policy is intended to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). In the event of any conflicts between this document and the CCPA, state law shall prevail. If we identify any conflicts, we will update our policy to comply with the relevant law.

An anonymized string (hash) created from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to verify whether you are using it.
